• TODAY'S FOOD
with Ms. Hartsfield and Ms. Hasson

This enjoyable and practical F.C.S. elective offers students a hands-on approach to learning about different foods, various preparation techniques, and related careers. Today’s Foods provides the content and skills necessary for students to be able to plan, shop, and efficiently prepare good-tasting, nutritious food while living independently.  Reading and understanding the language of a recipe is studied and practiced as well as the function of different ingredients as it relates to the principles of food science.  Meal planning and preparation, the importance of breakfast, snack foods, and foods for celebrations are all examined.   Nutritional information, including the different food groups and the U.S.D.A.’s food guidance system, MyPlate, are also included.  Current consumer trends are paired with food comparisons to enable students to make wise food choices throughout their lifetime.
