  • Welcome to Carl Sandburg Middle School -

A few helpful hints for the upcoming school year -

    • School Hours - Doors open at 7:25am.  You can go to the gym and shoot hoops or go to the cafeteria to eat breakfast or just sit until the bell rings at 7:50am.  At 7:50am the bell rings and you may go to your locker.  (Be here by quarter to eight and you will never be late!)   The school day ends at 2:55pm.
    • Absent Notes - If your child is absent from school you are required to send in a note explaining why they were absent the day your child returns to school.  This note should be given to your child's homeroom teacher.  Failure to bring in an absence note within 3 days of your child's absence will result in referral to the office for disciplinary action.   Click here to get to the handbook documents   You do not need to call the school to tell us your child is absence unless they have been absence for 3 or more days.
    • After school buses - the 4:15 bus is available on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  The 5:15 bus is available everyday.
    • Early Dismissal - If your child is leaving school early, you should write a note and include their full name and what time you will be picking them up.  This note should be brought to the main office as soon as the student arrives in the morning, before they go to homeroon so they can get a "golden ticket" aka - an early dimissal pass.  The "golden ticket" - early dimissal pass, allows your child to leave class 5 minutes before the time you wrote in your note to gather their belongings and come to the office to wait for you.  The note you write allows informs our teachers of the student's early dismissla, less interuption of classes and less waiting time for you.  If you forget to write a note, we do not take early dismissal's over the phone so you will just have to come to the main office with your license and we call your child as soon as we can.
    • Late Students - If you arrive after 7:55am you need come to the office to get a late slip before going to your locker.  Parents do not need to sign their children in late, they can sign themselves in. (Parents if you do want to come into the main office, you will need to scan your license.)  The only notes that will be accepted as excused latenesses will be those brought in the day a student is late and will state an excused reason for lateness such as sickness. Oversleeping or missing your bus are not acceptable reason for an excused lateness. Lateness time is also accumulated and charged as illegal absence time.   Click here to get to the handbook documents
    • Physical Education Notes - Medical excuse notes for Physical Education should be given to your Physical Education teacher during PE class.
