Jazz Band Rehearsals: |
2 evenings a week from 6 - 9 p.m. |
Neshaminy High School has two Prestigious Jazz Groups in our Music Department. These instrumental groups are some of the most elite ensembles in the Neshaminy School District. The Jazz Band rehearses 2 evenings a week from 6-9 pm whereas the Jazz Ensemble rehearses after school and Wednesday Evening from 6-9 pm. Both groups perform approximately 12 or so times a season, which includes Jazz Festivals, Concerts, District Events and Community Performances.
Selection into each ensemble is by audition only. Both groups have approximately 20 members in each ensemble.
All wind players in our jazz groups have to be members in good standing in our Prestigious Marching Band. All rhythm section players in NHS are welcome to audition. We hold our annual Orientation Meeting in October. At that time, audition materials are handed out and questions are answered. We do a few “run through’s” before the audition takes place, to give students a better understanding of the audition material. The Neshaminy High School Jazz Band and Jazz Ensemble have earned to their credit some of the highest ratings at area festivals, section and soloist awards. Each year we host our own Jazz Festival. Bands from all over attend and compete for ratings and awards. We also hire “top name” Jazz Musicians to judge our festival and work with our NHS Jazz Groups.
