DramaFor Honors English 11 and Drama teacher Gina Chiolan, teaching runs in the family. Education was the profession of choice for sister and her father, who was a principal at an elementary school now named after him. Although Chiolan's chosen vocation is no surprise, considering her family background, teaching was not her initial occupation. Chiolan received her undergraduate degree in broadcasting, speech and theatre from Kutztown University. Before earning her Masters Degree in English from the College of New Jersey, she worked for a professional theatre company and held a job as a corporate trainer. Chiolan made the transition into teaching in 1996, because of her desire to work with kids. "My favorite part of teaching is being able to work with so many bright and talented young adults. I get excited when my students are excited about learning," she said. Teaching also gives Chiolan the opportunity to combine her interests and impart her expertise in these areas to students. "Teaching gives me the chance to work with the two things I love the most; literature and drama," she commented. Chiolan understands the importance of a valuable high school education, not only through her teaching career, but also through her own high school experience. As a teacher and former AP student, class officer, and musical participant, Chiolan has learned many important lessons throughout high school. She feels that the most important lesson that a high school student can learn is that, "You should never stop learning, and that education doesn't end when you leave the classroom because you learn something in everything that you do." In her spare time Chiolan loves to travel and to spend time with her husband, Bob and her beautiful daughter Madison.
