    Algebra Algebra 2

    Mrs. Fischer

Welcome!  I am excited to be involved in your child’s education this year, and glad that you could join us for Back to School Night.  Below you will find a general overview of my teaching practices and beliefs.

    Classroom Behavior

Students are asked to follow basic rules for appropriate classroom behavior.  These rules were distributed to and discussed with students during the first week of school.

    A)                Be prepared to learn – Your child should bring several pencils, a math only notebook, homework (if assigned), a calculator and his/her assigned math book to class each day.

    B)                Respect yourself and others – Your child is asked to think of the effect of his/her behavior on others before taking any action.

          C)        No cell phones are to be used during class time!!!   This is a strict rule that I will enforce so please be sure your child is aware of the consequences:
                                   - First Time - Phone taken by me and contact home
                                   - 2nd Time on, office write up and removal of phone to be sent to office.
I appreciate your efforts in making this rule clear so that there are no distractions during class.

Of course, the discipline code is in effect in class.

    Curriculum

We are in the process of reviewing chapters one through six.  A Quarterly Exam will be given after chapter six.  Chapters seven through twelve contain new material and will be the focus for the remainder of the year.  Each student was given a textbook to leave home to complete homework assignments and for studying purposes.

    Homework

Homework is an integral part of the educational process, especially in mathematics.  As a result, homework will be assigned regularly and will be occasionally checked for completeness.  Credit will be given for each homework assignment and will account for ten percent of your child’s grade.  Homework will not be accepted late. All homework assignments are posted on my website calendar for Algebra 2 each evening in the event your child forgets to write it down.

    Work Missed Due to Absence

When returning from an absence, your child should see me or get the notes and missed work from another student as soon as they return.  Also, homework information is available on my website. A student has a time period equal to the number of days missed to complete and turn in class work and/or homework missed.  This is not an inflexible rule.  Students have been informed that if this timeline is difficult, they should see me to work out an alternative to this schedule.

    Extra Help

Extra help is offered after school, Monday through Thursday, until 4:00 and in the morning from 6:45 – 7:10 in the Library.  Students who cannot get a ride home will remain in the building until the 5:00 bus.

    Grading/Progress

You have access to your child’s grade through the Neshaminy School District on Home Access.  All homework assignments are also posted daily.  Grades will be posted regularly so please make it a point to keep up with your child’s progress in class.  Tests and quizzes are worth 70% of each marking period grade, District Assessments are 20%, and the homework is worth 10%.  There will be a final exam given which will account for a 5th marking period grade.
