National Junior Honor Society
WHAT IS POQUESSING NJHS?
The National Junior Honor Society is a nationwide service society founded in 1929. It is guided by a national constitution and chapters of this organization are found in middle level education throughout the United States and overseas. All three Neshaminy middle schools have very active NJHS chapters.
Seventh and eighth grade students who have a 3.50 cumulative grade point average over the first three marking periods for the current academic year are eligible to apply for membership. Members are sought in the spring of each school year. 8th graders , if selected for membership, will have an honorary membership. Membership in Poquessing’s chapter of National Junior Honor Society does not carry over to membership in the National Honor Society at Neshaminy High School. Once in high school, students would need to be invited to apply, and would need to go through the application process for that high school organization. It will be the current 7th graders, once accepted as members, who will be the members of this organization for the next school year.Any student in grades seven or eight who has the mandatory 3.50 cumulative grade point average will be notified and asked to consider applying for membership. To be accepted as a member, students must be able to document involvement in activities which have provided the opportunity to develop character, scholarship, leadership, service and citizenship. A five-member faculty council reviews the applications and determines who has met the criteria for membership. Once letters of acceptance have been sent, a formal induction ceremony is held in the evening in late May or early June.National Junior Honor Society members are the leaders of our school. They are active in athletics, the music program, and student council. National Junior Honor Society provides another opportunity for students to grow in character, scholarship, leadership, service and citizenship.
