SANDBURG'S SPECIAL MOCK ELECTION
ACTIVITIESCarl Sandburg Middle School will simulate the election process this year with a special mock election and assembly program. Highlights of Sandburg's simulated election process and programs are:
- April - "Understanding Primaries and Caucuses." Students watch a video and discuss how candidates pursue their party's nomination through the primary and caucus system.
- Apr. 26 - "PA Primary." Sandburg students participate in a mock vote with students across Bucks County in their social studies classes.
- May
- Sept. 23 - "The Presidency." Our special Constitution Day assemblies will introduce students to the office of the President and elections.
- Sept. 19 - Voter Registration Opens. ONLY registered voters will be allowed to vote on our school's election day, Nov. 7th.
- Nov. 1 - "Welcome to the (Political) Party!" Increase your understanding of the party system in the United States
- The Concept and Function of the Faction/Party System - Social Studies Teachers in class

- What is a Democrat? - Amy Strouse (Middletown Supervisor)
- What is a Republican? - Don Petrille (Bucks County Registrar of Wills)
- Oct. 8 through Oct. 10 - Political Belief Survey. Students will have an opportunity in their social studies classes to complete and discuss a political belief survey. The survey helps students to discover where on the political spectrum they fall.
- Week of Oct. 15 - Straw Vote. Students will be able to place a "straw" vote on the lobby's bulletin board as a pre-election survey.
- Oct. 31 - Voter Registration Closes. Remember, ONLY registered voters will be allowed to vote on our school's election day, Nov. 7th!
- Nov. 7 - Mock Election. School-wide, throughout the day students vote, homerooms and teacher groups represent different states in the Electoral College, the "Polling Station" is the library, students man the polls (Clerks, Watch dogs, Party Reps), voting will be completed as an anonymous online survey, news broadcasts throughout the day with updates.
