Bachelor in Music Education from Penn State Working on a Masters in Music Education from Kent State
Mrs. Elizabeth Montalvo
Hello Everyone!
My name is Mrs. Montalvo and I am the music teacher at Schweitzer Elementary School ,as well as, three 5th grade classes at Sandburg Middle School. I am a graduate of Penn State University and received a bachelor’s in Music Education. My main focus in college was on the interworkings of a general music class. I fell in love with teaching children at the elementary aged level and pursued my goal of becoming a general music teacher. I play the piano and violin, as well as, sing. In my spare time I love to run and hang out with family and friends!
After I completed my undergraduate degree, I persued a graduate degree in music education at kent State University. I graduated in May of 2017 and look forward to continuing my education in various music courses at the University of the Arts. So far in my post graduate learning journey, I have explored how to play the guitar, looked into jazz related music programs, developed my own singing voice and learned how to incorporate technology into my classroom!
In music class, I hope to inspire your children to want to make music a lifetime career as well as a lifelong love. We will sing, dance, move, play instruments, compose, create, practice, perform and “do” music in my classroom all year long. I look forward to a great year and I look forward to getting to know you and your wonderful kids! In 3rd, 4th and 5th grade we participate in a listening journal activity each class period. We listen to a piece of music and watch the video. While they are absorbing the music, students respond to a question posted on their google classroom. Each student is enrolled in their specific classes google classroom. Then, I have the capability of viewing their answers in a virtual classroom!
Please feel free to email me at any time and I would be more than happy to chat via email, phone or in person. We have a big year ahead of us and I can’t wait to spend it playing music with my new Schweitzer and Sandburg family.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Elizabeth Montalvo
