Service Learning ClubThe Service Learning Club is designed to empower students and teach them how to collaboratively solve complex problems in society.
Albert Schweitzer Elementary started a Service Learning Club in 2012. The students gather weekly to brainstorm ideas in how to help the school and the local community. Through their ingenuity and insight, the club has raised money and funded projects to help the homeless, the elderly, animals at the local shelter, and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia to name a few. The club hosts fundraisers monthly to support their efforts.

Service Learning Club wins $25,000 grant
Congratulations, to the Albert Schweitzer the Service Learning Club for the 2015-2016 school year! It was awarded a $25,000 grant from State Farm in their efforts to solve environmental problems in the school and the community. With the awarded funds, the Service Learning Club will purchase triple sorting recycle bins for each classroom to help recycle materials throughout the school. They are purchasing compost bins for the Garden Club to recycle cafeteria waste into fresh garden soil. The club will also supply sturdy recycle bins for the sporting fields for both Albert Schweitzer Elementary and for Sandburg Middle School. Last, the Service Learning club will partner with a local artist to turn trash into treasure, teaching the students how to make beautiful new creations out of recycled materials. Some of the students that helped apply for the State Farm grant application during the 2014 -2015 school year.
