Mr. Matthew Smith

My name is Matthew Smith and I am very excited to be starting my third year at Hoover! I taught first grade my first two years in the district and am going to be teaching second grade this coming school year! I have ten years of previous second grade teaching experience! It is truly a wonderful grade and I am looking forward to teaching it again! Hoover Elementary is a wonderful and welcoming place and I greatly enjoy being a member of the Hoover community. I am always trying to foster a love of reading and writing with my primary students! It is so rewarding to watch as this love of reading and writing develops in my students each year! I am looking forward to the new school year!

I graduated from Arcadia University in May 2006 with a double major in Elementary and Early Childhood Education. As I said, I am also a certified reading specialist. My first full-time classroom was a second grade classroom at Bridge Valley Elementary in the Central Bucks School District. I spent two years as a second grade teacher at Bridge Valley. I then taught second grade for three years at Saint Catherine of Siena School in Horsham. This school was merged with two other Catholic elementary schools to form a regional Catholic school called Our Lady of Mercy in Maple Glen. I taught second grade at Our Lady of Mercy for five years before coming to Neshaminy School District. I am looking forward to continuing to foster a strong sense of community in my classroom. I am also looking forward to continuing to use my literacy background to help all of my students to become avid readers and writers!
