The Pennsylvania Department of Education requires that families of all public school children respond to a Home Language Survey given at registration.  If a language other than English is spoken in the home, the ELD teacher will evaluate the student’s level of English proficiency in the domains of reading, writing, speaking and listening.

All students seeking first time enrollment in a school shall be given a home

language survey in according with requirements of the U.S. Department of

The student is assessed using the WIDA Access Placement Tool (W-APT) for kindergarten placement and the WIDA Screener for   grades 1-12 placement.  These screeners are used to determine the student's level of English proficiency and instructional needs.

Based of the results of these scores, it will be determined if the student qualifies for placement into the ELD program.
