Herbert Hoover Elementary School Parent and Family Engagement Policy
2024 - 2025
Herbert Hoover Elementary School has developed a Parent and Family Engagement Policy that is aligned with the District policy and is updated annually. This policy will be posted on the district and school’s website, distributed to parents at the Annual Meeting in the fall and made available at mid-year conferences. Parents were invited to be involved in the planning, review and improvement of the school's Parent and Family Engagement Policy and the Title 1 Program at an annual meeting held in fall of each school year.
Parent Involvement Policy:
• The annual meeting was held in person on September 19th at 5:00 pm and virtually September 20th at 9:30 am to inform parents of the school's participation in the Title I program, to explain the requirements of the program, and explain their right to be involved.
• At Hoover Elementary School, parent meetings and conferences will be held at different times during the day to accommodate parents’ schedules.
• We are committed to supporting parents’ participation in our school’s programs. Title I funds may be used to pay reasonable and necessary expenses associated with parent involvement activities, including transportation, childcare, or home visit expenses to enable parents to participate in school-related meetings and training sessions.
• Parents are invited to participate in the joint development of a School-wide Program Plan under Section 1114. Please contact Dr. David Glennon (dglennon@neshaminy.org) if you would like to participate.
• Newsletters will provide parents with timely information about the Title I program.
• Parents will be provided with a description and explanation of the curriculum, the forms of academic assessment used to measure student progress, and the proficiency levels students are expected to meet at parent conferences, through regularly scheduled parent workshops, Title 1 meetings, and school website/newsletters.
• Parent workshops will be held to provide assistance to parents in understanding:
o the State's academic content standards and student achievement standards;
o local academic assessments and how to monitor a child's progress; how to work with teachers to improve each child’s academic achievement.
• Hoover Elementary school will provide, if requested by parents, opportunities for
regular meetings to formulate suggestions and to participate, as appropriate, in decisions relating to the education of their children, and respond to any such suggestions as soon as practicably possible.
• The school-parent compact is to be jointly developed with parents. The compact
outlines how parents, the entire school staff, and students, will share in the responsibility for improved student achievement. This compact describes how the school provides materials and training to help parents to work with their children to improve their children's achievement, such as literacy training and using technology, as appropriate, to foster parent involvement.
• Herbert Hoover ES will educate teachers, specialized instructional support personnel,
and other staff, with the assistance of parents, in the value and utility of contributions of parents and family members, and in how to reach out to, communicate with, and work with parents and family members as equal partners, implement and coordinate parent programs, and build ties between parents and family members and the school (ESSA, Section 1116(6)(e)(3)) by sharing SPAC videos annually to all staff.
• Herbert Hoover ES will, to the extent feasible and appropriate, coordinate, and integrate parent involvement programs and activities with other federal, state, and local programs including public preschool programs and conduct other activities, that encourage and support parents and family members in more fully participating in the education of their children (ESSA, Section 1116(6)(e)(4)) by inviting parents and families of those students to participate in meetings and activities throughout the year as appropriate.
• Herbert Hoover ES will ensure information is in a language parents can understand by translating important documents (such as the Right To Know Letter, Home and School Compact, etc.) to the family’s native language. School wide surveys, documents, and newsletters will be sent in PDF versions so families may use a translation application to translate these documents. Important information will be posted to the Herbert Hoover ES website where families can easily translate the information.
• Herbert Hoover ES will include parents and family members of English Learners by using Language Line during important meetings (such as parent/teacher conferences, IEP and 504 meetings). At general meetings and workshops, the use of a QR code will be utilized to direct families to Google Translate. Should a family need additional services (i.e. for a disability), Herbert Hoover will accommodate the needs of those families.
