2020 Summer Reading Challenge Log
Writing Paper for Students Entering Grades 1 & 2
Writing Paper for Students Entering Grades 3 & 4
Dear Neshaminy Elementary Families,
We want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your hard work and dedication this spring with online learning. Summer months are a welcome opportunity for fun and relaxation. However, the break from school activities often leads to “Summer Slide”, which is the decline of knowledge and academic skills during the lengthy summer break that limits cumulative learning gains over time.
Each summer, the Neshaminy School District offers a list of book titles for suggested summer reading. This summer, we are happy to announce that we are linking our Summer Reading List to an online ebook app, Sora. The books are available by grade spans: K-2 and 3-4.
The Sora app is available on any device including chromebooks, smartphones, tablets and desktops, etc.
- The first time a student logs in they will need to use their Neshaminy username and password.
- Students with a local library card can also link to their library to access thousands of other books.
- Please have your student accept the Canvas Summer Reading List Course to access a Sora demonstration video and the interactive Summer Reading Lists.
- Just click the book cover to read the book. It’s that easy!
- Other summer reading resources available on Clever and your community
- TumbleBooks: animated and narrated picture book library. Children can read them on their own or have them narrated.
- Raz-Kids: leveled ebooks to allow for independent reading. Children can listen to the books, read the books independently and take corresponding comprehension eQuizzes.
- Bucks County Library Summer Quest begins June 20th as well as curbside pickup for all library materials. Click the link for more information.
Please look forward to receiving more info about the 2020 Summer Reading Challenge- “Splash into Summer With Reading!”
We are hopeful you will encourage your child to read throughout the summer to prevent the “Summer Slide.”
Have a safe, happy, and relaxing summer!
