In 1964, a new elementary school opened on Brownsville Road in Lower Southampton Township. The school was named 'Tawanka', from a Native American expression meaning 'Willingness to Achieve'. For 50 years this building served the needs of students, first as an elementary school and later as a special needs facility operated by the Bucks County Intermediate Unit.

In 2015 ground was broken for a new school on the same site to replace the aging building. As part of a district-wide plan to match the student population needs with the number of buildings and modernize all buildings in the district, the new Tawanka Elementary School once again welcomed students starting in 2016-2017. The school serves approximately 850 students from Lower Southampton Township, Middletown Township and Langhorne Borough in grades K-4. The school mascot is the American Bald Eagle in keeping with the Native American themes of the old building.
