**FRY PHRASES****Fluency Practice**Parents:
Posted at the bottom of this page are links to three Microsoft Powerpoint presentations containing short sentences and phrases - commonly called, "Fry's Phrases." The phrases contain 300 of the most commonly encountered words in elementary school reading. The purpose of the Powerpoint presentations is to give students practice recognizing these high-frequency words in context and to improve skills in both speed and accuracy. By becoming more fluent readers - students tend to comprehend more of what they read. So, if your child would benefit from additional work on reading fluency - using these Powerpoint presentations is a quick and easy way to practice this skill at home.
Once you start the slide show, the slides move from phrase to phrase automatically. You may need to adjust the time in which the slides are advanced. Keep track of the phrases that they are unable to read. You may want to print those out for extra practice. Students should master (be able to fluently read) the first 100 phrases before moving on to the next set of phrases. I also suggest that they only spend about 15 minutes per day on this activity.
There are also links to print out flashcards.
