I am thrilled to return to Tawanka as a literacy specialist this year! I previously taught Title 1 Reading at Pennsbury School District, and have taught kindergarten through second grade in Philadelphia, Maryland, and Virginia. I studied at Missouri Southern State University, Arcadia University, and Cabrini College.
Working with students to improve their reading skills is incredibly rewarding. The intervention programs used by our district address all areas of reading acquisition. We work to identify the needs of our students, group the students according to their current skill levels, and then provide strategic lessons to help the students gain new skills.
Communication between teachers and parents or guardians is very important! I love to share the progress of the students through parent/teacher conferences, whether in person or over the phone.
