Science Fair Date:  Thursday, March 14, 2024.  6:30-7:30 PM.

Participation in the Science Fair is open to all 3rd and 4th grade students.  This year, the fair is scheduled to occur at Pearl Buck Elementary on Thursday, March 14, 2024, from 6:30-7:30 PM (set-up 6:15-6:30).

    General Information:

    • Our PTO will supply one project board per group or individual project.

    • Students may work on projects independently, with a partner, or in a small group of up to 4 students.  However, all participants must be 3rd or 4th grade students at Pearl Buck.

    • Each project (individual or group) will be provided with 33" W x 14" D of table space on which to display their projects. This easily fits the provided project boards. Please plan on using the standard space.  If you have a project idea you think will need need more than the standard space, or if you have other specific requirements (such as an electrical outlet), please contact the Principal at bkern@neshaminy.org as soon as you have your project idea.  Additional space and access to outlets is limited, and may not be available.

    • Project ideas should come from and be of interest to the participants.  In addition, the project should be driven by them. Parents should use their best judgment in deciding when to get involved, such as when there is a potential health or safety issue.  Parents may provide some guidance, but it is important that each child be able to call the project their own.  We will be asking students to explain the project; they should be able to answer questions about it. You may find this link helpful for designing your experiment, evaluating data, and setting up your presentation.

    • Additional considerations (not all inclusive):

      • Any aspects of the project that may present health or safety risks during the fair (e.g. live animals, caustic chemicals, projects with projectiles) should only be presented with photos or video.

      • Food/candy/drinks may not be offered or distributed during the Science Fair.  However, they may be part of the display in representative amounts.

    • The goal of our science fair is simply to encourage scientific exploration and discovery. Each participant will have an opportunity to briefly present their project to many people.  Practice answering these questions to help with your presentation.

    • We will also ask science fair visitors to vote on which projects will be invited to participate in the Neshaminy District STEAM Expo on April 4, 2024.  Practice talking about/answering the science fair questions to improve your presentation.  Due to space limitations, a maximum of 6 projects can be recommended for the Expo.

    • All projects should be brought with students when they arrive on the evening of the event.  Plan to arrive around 6:00-6:15 PM to set-up.

    • We will have an in-school presentation during the morning following the evening event.  At the conclusion of the evening presentation, please plan to take home all elements of your child's project EXCEPT the display board. Display boards will remain at school and will be used during the classroom presentations.
