Poquessing Choir makes waves across the state

Poquessing Middle School Select Choir

The Poquessing Middle School Select Choir, under the direction of Jason Leigh, has been making waves across Philadelphia and Pennsylvania.

In November, the group competed in the final round of the 101 MoreFM Christmas Choir Competition. Their entry in this contest, which includes schools from throughout the Philadelphia region, is an a capella version of Auld Lang Syne.

They placed second, earning a $2,000 donation to the Neshaminy music program.

This contest was only the latest accolade for the talented group. They were honored several times with invitation-only performances including:

  • The National Association for Music Education Eastern Division Conference (11 states)
  • The Pennsylvania Music Educators Association state conference
  • Three consecutive American Choral Directors Association state conferences
  • Appearances on the Preston & Steve Show on 93.3 FM WMMR and the Fox 29 Good Day Philadelphia show with their rendition of the Radiohead song, Creep

In addition, the choir was also a second-place finalist in the 101 MoreFM Christmas Choir Competition in 2015 for a rendition of Riu, Riu Chiu.
