 COMMITMENT:

The season is very long.  Your dedication, focus, perseverance and hard work are critical to your success.  Track and Field is a unique sport in that it is both an individual and a team sport.  Each athlete is integral in orchestrating a win.  In order to be successful in track and field you must be willing to commit yourself to improvement.

Proper practice and time equals success.  During the season we practice until 5:00pm.  Your attendance at practice is mandatory.  Absenteeism will be reviewed by the coaching staff, and disciplinary actions taken.  As a member of this team you are expected to compete in every meet that you are entered.  The meets are held after school.  You need to plan your schedule around practice and meets.  Plan ahead!  The inability to commit yourself to the team and its competitions will result in your dismissal from the team.

You must try to enter every practice / meet with a clear mind to remain focused on the task at hand.  In track and field it is very easy to give up because it is not easy, and can sometimes be a tremendous blow to your ego.

Make a commitment to being healthy.  Eat right and get your proper rest.  Although curfews are not enforced you need to be aware that in order to compete at a high level you must get proper rest before practice and meets.  Your coaches will get very upset with you if you are not visibly ready to compete.

 PRACTICE ROUTINE:

Each day you are to get changed in the team locker room and put your valuables in a locked locker.  Early in the season we will have the Gym lobby to warm-up in before we head out to the track, or outside.  Once the weather is nicer we will warm up outside of the gym.  Be sure to bring proper outdoor gear, we will go outside if the weather is good enough.  Practice will last until we are finished!  Be ready to stay.  If you have to miss practice for any reason YOU must inform a coach before practice begins.  DO NOT ask a teammate to tell the coaches about your absence.  You will also be required to bring a note from your parent when you return to practice.

 COMMUNICATION:

Team announcements will be made every day during warm-up, as well as posted on our team’s web site. Be sure to stay informed, and do not say, “I did not know”.  Information posted will pertain to practices, meet entries, meet results, and important dates it is there for you, so read it.

 ACADEMICS:

Your academic success is the most important part of your middle school career.  Eligibility requirements are established for interscholastic athletic participation.  Weekly grade checks are made by the administration on all athletes.  Insufficient academic progress reported during the season will result in a one-week suspension from the team.  Keep your grades up, and alert your coaches of any classroom struggles.

 TRANSPORTATION:

Bus transportation will be provided by the school district to and from every track meet.  Athletes are expected to use the transportation provided. Leaving with a parent after a meet is acceptable only after notifying a coach.

 ISSUED EQUIPMENT:

All issued uniforms, and warm-ups must be returned at the end of the season cleaned and undamaged.  Athletes will be assessed a replacement cost by the school for any lost or damaged items.

All track athletes need to have a yearly physical to participate.  The form is available for download at the top of this site.
