 Redistricting information

The School Board has considered redistricting plans for elementary school attendance zones for the 2016-2017 school year. At the Special Board Meeting on Tuesday May 3 the Board voted 8-0 to approve Scenario 9D, which appears below. The criteria for this selection included:
  • Center neighborhood assignments geographically near schools as much as possible
  • Limit disruption to as few families as possible
  • Ensure that no school building will be overcrowded in the foreseeable future
  • Consider transportation and staffing concerns for all elementary buildings

As part of the Neshaminy School District Road Map plan, on April 12, 2016 the Neshaminy School Board voted to close Lower Southampton Elementary School in Feasterville and Oliver Heckman Elementary School in Langhorne. Also as part of the Road Map plan, Samuel Everitt Elementary School in Levittown was closed at the end of the 2014-2015 school year, and the new Tawanka Elementary School on Brownsville Road in Lower Southampton Township is currently under construction and scheduled to open for the 2016-2017 school year in August, 2016.

The purpose of these closures and construction was to reduce the number of underutilized school buildings throughout the District, while at the same time modernizing several older buildings and replacing others with the new Tawanka Elementary School. Other parts of this plan include renovation projects at Carl Sandburg Middle School, Poquessing Middle School, Albert Schweitzer Elementary School, Herbert Hoover Elementary School and Joseph Ferderbar Elementary School. These projects have either been completed or will be completed by the end of summer, 2016. Another part of the Road Map plan included shifting the fifth-grade to the District's three middle schools, which was completed at the start of the 2015-2016 school year.

Neshaminy School District will make every effort to make the transition to new school assignments as smooth as possible for both students and their families. The staffs at both Heckman and Lower Southampton are planning activities to celebrate their schools and give families a final farewell. Special events such as tours and orientations at the new schools will be scheduled as the new school year approaches to allow students to familiarize themselves with their new surroundings and meet the staff before the new school year begins.

Families will be kept informed with regular updates from their schools and the District as the transition process proceeds. Additional information will be also posted on this page.
